FAQ

What is included in the cost of my event?

Every event comes with an interactive DJ with quality sound equipment including a wireless microphone. Lighting to enhance the dance floor is not guaranteed, but is available at no extra charge.

How much of a deposit is required to secure our date?

A 25% deposit with a signed contract will secure a DJ for your chosen date.

How long will you hold our date for us without a signed contract?

As a courtesy, we can let you know when an inquiry has been made for the date you are interested in. If someone is prepared to sign a contract with a deposit ready, we cannot turn them away.

How long have you been a DJ, and how many weddings have you done?

Emilie and her partner Jim have been hands on DJ’s for over 25 years. They have each done countless weddings. Our additional DJ’s have variable experience and are placed into their own areas of expertise.

Will you or an employee be the DJ at our event?

Preferred DJ currently has six different DJ’s who can perform on any given day. Requests for a specific DJ will be honored on a first come, first serve basis. Should for any reason a DJ is unable to perform on the date they are contracted, one of our other trained DJ’s will fill in for them. You would be notified with as much advanced notice as possible.

.

What makes you different from your competitors?

We offer personalized planning. Once you have completed a contract with deposit, you will be able to sit down with Your DJ to go over all the details of your special day. You will receive a detailed agenda allowing you to communicate any changes with your DJ prior to the event. We ask that you approve a final copy of the agenda at least 48 before your DJ performs.

What kind of equipment do you use?

We strive to stay on the leading edge of our industry standards with high quality sound equipment and computerized music software. Lighting varies for each system used and the DJ using it.

When do you arrive to set up for our party?

Your DJ should arrive approximately one hour before the start time of your event and be ready to begin before guest arrival. These times should be confirmed during your planning session.

What will you wear to our event?

Your DJ’s attire should be neat and clean and appropriate to the event:

• Suit and tie for weddings and any formal events

• Polo and Khakis for casual events such as beach parties

• Non-explicit costumes only when requested

Do you set up a sign or banner with your equipment?

Promotional materials are reserved for promotional events, however, each DJ is allowed to display business cards and have brochures available.

Do you act as the “emcee” and make all of the announcements?

We prefer to make your announcement for you since all of our DJ’s are trained on how to speak clearly on a microphone. Also, since you have been able to share with your DJ what it is you want communicated, we are prepared in advance to provide that service for you.

How would you define your “style” when making announcements?

Every DJ has their own style, from making announcements to interacting with your guests. What we provide through Preferred DJ is the training for your DJ to be able to be understood clearly over the microphone.

What do you do to motivate the crowd if nobody is dancing?

Each event is individual to the guests in attendance. Every party provides a unique set of circumstances that requires your DJ to play music and make announcements according to what is necessary for it to be successful.

How involved can we be in selecting music for our event?

Your Preferred DJ asks that you provide your personal selections two weeks prior to the date of your event. This way we can come prepared before your party begins. We will always offer to receive requests the day of your party from both you and your guests. Please be sure to let your DJ know ahead of time if there is anything specific you do NOT want played, so your DJ is able to filter those requests out for you.

How do you keep your music collection up-to-date?

We have a subscription with a company that keeps us ahead of the mainstream. For unusual selections we appreciate advance notice to research and obtain your requests.

Have you played at our reception site before?

Emilie and her partner have performed at many venues throughout lower Michigan and northern Ohio. For specific locations just ask us.

What do you require from us? (electricity, table for equip, etc.)

Please confirm with your venue that we will be provided with proper shelter and electricity, a six foot table and chair; linens are optional. If there is no table cloth your DJ will bring his or her own.

Do you require a meal?

It is specified in our contract that a meal should be provided for your DJ(s). They will be one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave and we would prefer they did not have to bring a packed lunch. Your DJ should also be allowed non-alcoholic drinks for the duration of your event.

What is your policy on alcohol or smoking during the party?

Preferred DJ’s company policy states that profanity, drinking of alcoholic beverages, or use of any narcotics on the part of the DJ is unacceptable. This is cause for immediate termination. Smoking will be allowed in area’s permitted by the location of the event.

Do you take any breaks?

Yes, however, unlike a band, your DJ should be able to take a break without interruption of the music.

May we speak to your references?
